Since high school, I have been on a quest to change lives, to have some type of impact on boys and girls who share the color of my skin, and help people appreciate Black history...

I #LoveTeaching because every day is something new! The unpredictability, innocence, determination, and excitement that the students bring makes teaching one of the best jobs in the world!

On Tuesday, I defended my dissertation at my school in front of my students, colleagues and families. Students who participated in my study were there. #LoveTeaching

I #LoveTeaching because there are thousands of kids in our lifetime who need that right word of encouragement, that right act of grace, that right moment of levity. I am always humbled how these pebble-sized moments ripple outward for years.

My grandmother taught for 37 years. I’m at 35-- 2 more to go to reach her 37 years of education excellence. Together we will have changed lives and had our lives changed for the better for 74 years!

I #LoveTeaching for the breakthrough moments. The first time a student genuinely smiles in class, the first time a student musters up the confidence to share in front of his or her peers, the first time your tough student hugs you and tells you he or she loves you. I’m in it for the wonderful, incredible, unique human beings I have the honor of teaching.

I love teaching because I’m a product of public education, and I experienced firsthand the influence of great teachers. I teach with constant joy and passion trying to inspire my students. And hopefully, whatever they chose to do in their lives, they’ll do it with passion, commitment, and thinking that every day is an opportunity to succeed-- or, if not, an opportunity to fail as practice to succeed the next day!

I #love teaching because the kids are so energetic and excited to learn. Middle school students have a great sense of humor. They keep me young!

Teaching is one of the only professions where we have the honor and blessing of seeing a new canvas painted every day, live, and in person! And it's these painters, our students, that continue to give us teachers hope for those that we serve!
